License plate No. 1 Sells for $14.3 mn, World’s Most Expensive One!

License plate No. 1

Even in your wild imagination, how can do you think a single-digit license plate would cost you? Okeah, if this questions seems insane to you then let me tell you months back only a vanity plate no. 5 got sold for $6.8mn, thereby beating the previous record of $657160 set by number plate “M1″ in July (2007). And right after that there developed a certain fad amongst UAE nationalities to invest or rather flaunt their wealth in buying expensive number plates. As a result license plate No.1 hit the auction house raising much-anticipation to be the world’s most expensive number plate. And fortunately it managed to mint the label of being so.

And the deal got inked for $14.3 million. UAE based businessman Saeed Abdul Ghafour Khouri paid this sum for taking home the Abu Dhabi license plate labeled “1” at an auction held at the 7-star Emirates Palace Hotel in Abu Dhabi. The entire auction of license plates witnessed almost 90 plates including numbers 100, 1111, 2001 and 31313 and in total raised 89 million dirhams.
