Though it looks very futuristic, Herman Miller’s Embody chair is a must have for an ultra-modern yet comfortable décor. Aptly called the Embody this classy piece offers a wonderful stimulus with the characteristic Herman Miller signature.
People are already tagging it as the new Aeron, must I say that the Embody has a unique style of its own. For starters, it is not sleek like the Aeron but it stands exquisite with an intricate design on the back of the chair, resembling a human spine even flexing and bending to cradle the body! Yep, don’t miss the 56 flexors.

Ever heard of your chair knowing your mind, following your brainpower? The researchers at MIT are designing a wheelchair that responds to verbal commands. This user-friendly system can learn all about the locations in a given building, and then take its occupant to a given place in response to a vocal order. Just by saying “take me to the cafeteria” or “go to my room,” the wheelchair user would be able to avoid the need for controlling every twist and turn of the route and could simply sit back and relax as the chair moves from one place to another based on a map stored in its memory.
Unlike other attempts to program wheelchairs or other mobile devices, which rely on an intensive process of manually capturing a detailed map of a building, the MIT system can learn about its environment in much the same way as a person would: By being taken around once on a guided tour, with important places identified along the way. Outdoors in the open, such systems can rely on GPS receivers to figure out where they are, but inside buildings the wheelchair prototype relies on a WiFi system to make its maps and then navigate through them, which requires setting up a network of WiFi nodes around the facility in advance.

A true artist never lets an experience go waste. The challenge of the art is to immortalize what appeals to heart, through art. That is what Amy Rice did after she got inspiration from seeing beautiful Zinnias flowers blooming all over. She made Zinnia flowers the theme of a complete range of furnishings including tables, chairs and boards. All this reminds me of the painted leaf in O Henry’s Last Leaf; true to life, these flowers can lighten your mood anytime.

This one goes to Aila. I got a small mail from her a week back asking me to do a feature on chairs. It seemed that she had decided that I needed to change my lucky ( stinky, she says) chair. In case you could not guess, she is my brilliant house-keeper. Her trick worked, I did replace my oldie goldie, tempted as I was after comparing so many beauties in the market. I have tried to bring out the best features in each piece, without boggling the readers with too many details. Nevertheless, the ones that are mentioned are enough to make you decide which will be coming to your place.

Alright, the catchy headline might seem a big vague as in terms of functionality it’s not a Matrix Unplugged chair and rather is nuclear powered. They say that the industrial finish of the chair comes from the torpedo lifting jaws of an actual nuclear powered nautical. Actually the torpedo lifting apparatus itself was an archetype that was not at all used or bulk-produced and it is this feature only that makes the chair, an elite creation with a difference. Designed and developed by Zoran Milivojevic, an artist and machinist, the chair sports working mechanical hydraulics used for regulating chair’s location and ergonomics.
