Cambridge has made another piece of history by launching an extraordinary clock by an extraordinary person at Christi College. Launched by Cambridge professor Stephen Hawking, this two million dollar wonder took seven years to be brought to life. The clock is designed by John Taylor, who has already made a reputation for creating bizarre time pieces. The philosophy behind this clock, in Taylor’s word is that “once a minute is gone you can’t get it back” and this is visualized in the form of a huge grasshopper that literally eats the minutes. The clock has the grasshopper with an open mouth, that keeps opening its mouth wide and when the minute is complete, it swallows the time and gulps it down!
The clock is to be placed outside the New Taylor Library, which has been named so after its maker.

A true artist never lets an experience go waste. The challenge of the art is to immortalize what appeals to heart, through art. That is what Amy Rice did after she got inspiration from seeing beautiful Zinnias flowers blooming all over. She made Zinnia flowers the theme of a complete range of furnishings including tables, chairs and boards. All this reminds me of the painted leaf in O Henry’s Last Leaf; true to life, these flowers can lighten your mood anytime.

There is not much information available about this product yet. For one, it’s only a possibility: a design and second, it has the potential to capture the market like nothing before. Designed by Italian designer Edoardo Carlinoe and to be released by Deta, we are talking about The Hi-Can that combines four of the gadgets that are frequently used in just one system. It includes a canopy bed, a sound system supporting mp3 audio and an integrated video projection system. The projector can be wisely used as a Monitor for computer and also as a television. I am already in love with this amazing concept.

The only thing to be seen is the price factor and the fact that the concept meets the final product.

To be an inventor is one thing but to be an inventor in style is another thing altogether. In our past blogs, we may have covered hundreds of varieties of head phones but I have never come across an idea as simple and yet innovative as this- wearing the earphone into the hat! With iLogic Sound Hat you can actually replace a hat for the headphone. Who would have thought of this earlier and yet how commonsensical it is!
It has double benefits, first being that you don’t need the messy, always falling out ear phones because it fits snugly to your hear and second, it keeps you warm and in vogue. All that you need is an iPod or a music player to compliment this cap.

It seems that the creative minds behind the Han Solo Carbonite Desk cannot sit at rest and hence have lately unveiled Galactic Emperor Throne. Counted five units of this limitred edition throne are avaialbel for sale with a retail value of $5000. It may seem a bit pricey on first hearing but start imagining ruling the galaxy by shelling out this petty sum. And your kingly presence would allow you utter phrases like: “Everything is happening as I have forecasted,” or “Anakin, bring my slippers and today’s newspaper, please?” or “Is my supper ready?”
Understanding the client’s requirements, artists Tom Spina and Richard Riley took insight from essentials of Captain Kirk’s bridge chair from Star Trek and the Emperor’s throne from the Star Wars films and produced this striking creation.
Featured above is the outcome of the designers’ hardwork, Galactic Throne measuring four feet tall and well crafted in routine welded steel. Sporting modifiable plinth, it is accessible to “glide” on 8 veiled wheels.

Each model is customized and can be tailored to the client’s penchant of shade upholstery and other needful options.

This one goes to Aila. I got a small mail from her a week back asking me to do a feature on chairs. It seemed that she had decided that I needed to change my lucky ( stinky, she says) chair. In case you could not guess, she is my brilliant house-keeper. Her trick worked, I did replace my oldie goldie, tempted as I was after comparing so many beauties in the market. I have tried to bring out the best features in each piece, without boggling the readers with too many details. Nevertheless, the ones that are mentioned are enough to make you decide which will be coming to your place.
11) Klini Sound Wave Chair is an Ideal Spa and Gym Combo
The Klini Sound Wave is one product that does not come straight out of the head of one designer but is a result of patient research done over the years. This chair is like your Grand Ma sitting by your side and rocking you to sleep, says the users. This is not just a chair but a stress release therapy and a music player all in one. Though it may not play music that you want to, but it knows best what relaxes a tired mind-specially designed chakra alignment beats. Lately, a change of taste is being witnessed in the likings of the filthy-rich or those belonging to elite section of society. Against their routine thought of exhibiting their riches over walls by hanging valuable art, now they wish to sit on it. And boosting high this spirit stands the Russian oligarch and Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich. Respecting this new art discipline, they seem to have lost their heart to a creation of something christened as “functional sculpture”. Designed and developed by architects and artists, the demand for this furniture item can well be calculated during its inviting visibility at the first auction dedicated exclusively to modern design scheduled at Christie’s this autumn.
The auction at Christie’s is expected to feature items like polyurethane table designed by the Iranian architect Zaha Hadid and highly polished steel sofa by the British-born Israeli designer Ron Arad priced at £100,000 and £150,000 respectively. Word is around that Arad’s work will be displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2009. Wishful buyers of this world’s priciest art creation include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
