Moms Storm e-Bay With A Giant Ballista
Posted in Architecture, Concept on 2 October 2008

ballista

We are well aware what a bunch of crazy moms can do.  I think that would apply to ‘campaigns’ alone if our limited knowledge is anything to go by.  Surprise, surprise! A group of moms in the UK are extremely busy auctioning a full-size Roman ballista on e-Bay.

Believe it or not, but the whole deal is no figment of our imagination. The ballista or should we say catapult was recreated by a team of experts at Carpenter Oak & Woodland in 2002 for a BBC programme called Building the Impossible. The efficient workers kept all known records in mind to the utmost accuracy. The firing was successful too.

ballista

Weighing around 12 tons and standing 7.5 metres tall, and 8.5 metres long, the ballista is believed to be one of its kind. 120,000 pounds were spent on its construction. Bidding starts at 25,000 pounds. At that rate the giant caty means some serious business!

X-Ray messages
X-Ray messages

Techie artist Evan Roth is working on a project that has caught the attention of all those who enjoy the funsies. Well, we don’t know much about it but the pictures suggest that he is coming up with a communication system.

Evan has created metal plates with messages on them. These plates when being X-Rayed will flash the message inscribed on them. The finishing touches are being given before the wacky plates are launched.
X-Ray messages

In fact, Evan is looking for an X-Ray machine that he can click pictures of for documentation. So if you have one, do drop by Evan’s and he may just give you a set of his plates for goodwill’s sake.

Casey Jones with his Wine Ager

Tired of cheap supermarket liquor? Not anymore. There is a soon-to-be released miracle machine for all those of you who want to sip on quality spirits without having to spend too much. A creation of Dragons Den veteran and entrepreneur Casey Jones, this wonderful gadget comes at a neat price of 350 pounds.

Claims are that this ice-bucket look alike can turn any cheap booze into a bottle of vintage in just 30 minutes. The space-age ultrasound technology behind has garnered a lot of interest. Leisure chain Hotel Du Vin is even in talks about promoting the working title ‘Ultrasonic Wine Ager’.

There is yet another plus point that this wine ager has. It eliminates chances of a hangover. Because of the chemical changes occurring, the alcohol becomes easily absorbable by the kidneys. By the way, Jones has also tried the gadget on orange juice. Not only the juice was fresher but it even looked brighter.

A very attractive product that shall pull all restaurants, bars, pubs, hotels and home brewers like a magnet!

Brudelli’s Lean Mean Bike-Car Combo Machine
Posted in Automobile, Car, Concept, Designer, Jewelry on 29 September 2008

Brudelli's Leanster

Imagine a bike-car combo! Well, Brudelli’s leanster has turned that fantasy into a reality. It is actually a variation on the motorcycle incorporating the benefits of a two-wheeled front end for a dynamic ride but with the traction of a multi-wheeled vehicle. It is a visual delight to see this model in function. Yep, it is really cool to see the vehicle leaning at an angle of 45 degrees except for the footboards that remain parallel to the ground. The two front wheels also provide less braking distance.

Basing the machine on a lean and mean structure, this techie work of art weighs just 238 kg. As a result, the 654cc KTM engine with 47kW @ 7,500 rpm gives great acceleration thanks to the 65 Nm @ 6,550 rpm midrange all the way to 170 km/hr.

The best part is that this bike of a kind can be driven on all surfaces like tarmac roads, go-kart tracks and even the speedway tracks. The model will be launched at Intermot 2008 on October 8 and will be available in limited numbers at a price of 21,000 Euros.

You Don’t Have To Wait With The EPOS-lite Device
Posted in Concept, Luxury, Technology on 28 September 2008

EPOS-lite

This could bring about a new revolution in the whole restaurant menu/payment ritual. EPOS-lite is a concept yet to become a reality, but once it does the world of outside food will be very different. The developers say that this device can be given to each diner who will select their order from the menu flashing on the EPOS-lite screen, which will be displayed on a screen in front of the chef. So, there will be no more waiting for that elusive waiter.

Even the payment can be handled by the same instrument. After dinner, you can enter information about dishes you ordered and pay with your plastic money like you do online. This will save you any worries that arise when your card disappears for a good 10 minutes into the hands of complete strangers.
Not only this, the wireless EPOS-lite even recharges itself when placed on the tabletop. Wow, won’t it be super cool to bypass the wait staff completely!

Ferrari Motorcycle in the Making!
Posted in Automobile, Concept, Designer on 26 September 2008

Here is the biggest news for all monster bikers. A Ferrari motorcycle is in the making! You got it right! Pondering over the question- “Why there is no Ferrari motorcycle?” that rose in his office, Israeli industrial designer Amir Glinik conceptualized the Ferrari motorcycle. His design is influenced by Vintage and modern Ferrari projects and the idea is to produce a practical machine, not in any way a “star wars” future ride.

This maybe the most radical idea on this project and may take a year to be fully developed, but it sure will conquer the world with its beautiful streamlined and sleek body. Using drive-by-wire technology, the V4 super bike features hand controls adapted from an F-16 fighter jet and buttons based on those found on the steering wheel of Ferrari’s Formula 1 racecars. Other controls for the sound system and trip computer are located on an all weather touch screen. Glinik’s design also incorporates several high-tech gadget attachments, reminiscent of Ferrari cars.

Apart from the traditional Ferrari Red, Glinik also gives possibilities of a Black Bike with maybe a 5 point star aluminum rims. If Ferrari is going to enter into a new field, it might just as well incorporate more colors into its designs. Ferrari lovers can just wait before they go Vroom-Vroom!!

Posted in Designer, Eco-friendly, Luxury, Yacht on 17 September 2008

FoilJet MR1

In for an exhilarating ride on water in a green fashion?  Here’s the eco-friendly FoilJet MR1, designed by Matt De Bellefeuille, which is a unique concept vehicle on water that gives you an awesome ride and helps reduce water pollution. It uses a distinctive technique in which its foils, located under the hull of the vehicle, act as wings that propel the vehicle completely out of the water.  Befitted with an electric engine ruling out oil spills in case of an accident, this wonderful water body is appendage with safety features such as a simple switch to shut the engine down. To operate the Foiljet, the rider will simply lower the foil beams and accelerates. The hydrofoils will then start to act as wings making the vehicle foil borne & prepare it to ride smoothly on water.

Combining the efficiency of a motor bike and that of a sail boat, this water body is sure to offer riders a whole new experience. With use of hydrofoils and a 48 Volt motor, the Foiljet is certain to be one of the most efficient vehicles on the water and an eco-delight at $15,000.

Is it a Ring or a Phone on Your Finger? Courtesy Tao Ma

The Ring Phone

In the days of the cold war, there were many insidious discoveries such as the button hole camera and other secret devices that the KGB and CIA used to spy on each other. This latest concept of The Ring Phone would have appealed the secret agents a lot. The product that we are going to talk about is Tao Ma’s Sony Ericsson Ring Phone that is still in the conceptual stage and has won the SE Design Competition, China. On the outside, it looks like a beautiful ring but can be used like any other phone to make or receive calls.

The Ring Phone

Just keep your ring finger close to your head and experience the wonder of this miniature phone. This design is particularly useful for forgetful people like me, who keep losing their cell phones at the blink of the eye. Tao Ma, the designer of this wonderful gadget truly deserves our kudos!

Parking Problems Solved: Fold this Bike and Carry With You!
Posted in Automobile, Concept, Designer on 7 September 2008

Rotation bike

I am a bicycle lover myself but I detest the idea of having to park it everytime I go to the neighbourhood shop. Why not simply have a bike that I can use when I want to and can pack it and carry with me when I want to walk or halt! My amazing fantasy is being fulfilled by Yirong Yang, the master designer of bicycle who has designed a bike that can be turned into a unicycle any time you want to and can be folded and carried as per needs.

This wonderful design also participated at the International Bicycle Design Challenge. Called as Rotation – a city folding bike, it has adjustable handlebar, the saddle and front wheel. What better way to help making your city pollution free and at the same time grabbing the attention of people around you.
