Motoart is perhaps the one and only organisation to utilize vintage aviation parts into cool looking furniture for both home as well as office. And they have to thank LA based designer Giancarlo De Astis for his creativity and zest to pick airplane parts dumped in Arizona junkyards and convert them into elegant fixtures.

You will be surprised to what an artistic brush can do to discarded flaps, wings, canopies, turbines and other aircraft parts. Well, Astis can give them a second life in the form of desks, tables, credenzas, cabinets and lamps. Some of his most appreciated creations include the Latro Primo desk, the Lo Squalo club chair and the Solo conference table.

Kenchikukagu Mobile Furniture

Those who still consider Japan as a hub for electric productions only shall revise their opinion. The rationale is the mobility touch that seems to have influenced Japanese markets thereby inviting prospective consumers. Called the Kenchikukagu, it is the designer range of mobile furniture coming from the house of Atelier OPA based in Japan. The Kenchikukagu series incorporate a mobile work station, a mobile bed and a moible kitchen. Out of all, the mobile bed gathered my attention as it can be pleated when not in-use. It sports a small work space with a lighting touch that can appeal no less than a masterpiece, if installed in an office. Designed to ease your working, sleeping and eating habits, the designer mobile furniture are way beyond those virtual concept designs as are available for sale on Amazon Japan for JPY 800,000(about $7436 US).

Bring in the Zinnia garden inside your home
Posted in Art, Chair, Designer, Display, Furniture on 21 September 2008

A true artist never lets an experience go waste. The challenge of the art is to immortalize what appeals to heart, through art. That is what Amy Rice did after she got inspiration from seeing beautiful Zinnias flowers blooming all over. She made Zinnia flowers the theme of a complete range of furnishings including tables, chairs and boards. All this reminds me of the painted leaf in O Henry’s Last Leaf; true to life, these flowers can lighten your mood anytime.

Posted in Concept, Designer, Furniture on 11 September 2008

Hi-Can

There is not much information available about this product yet. For one, it’s only a possibility: a design and second, it has the potential to capture the market like nothing before. Designed by Italian designer Edoardo Carlinoe and to be released by Deta, we are talking about The Hi-Can that combines four of the gadgets that are frequently used in just one system. It includes a canopy bed, a sound system supporting mp3 audio and an integrated video projection system. The projector can be wisely used as a Monitor for computer and also as a television. I am already in love with this amazing concept.

Hi-Can

The only thing to be seen is the price factor and the fact that the concept meets the final product.

$300,000 Mirror-Polished Stainless Steel Sofa by Ron Arad
Posted in Auctions, Designer, Furniture on 9 August 2008

Stainless Steel Sofa

Lately, a change of taste is being witnessed in the likings of the filthy-rich or those belonging to elite section of society. Against their routine thought of exhibiting their riches over walls by hanging valuable art, now they wish to sit on it. And boosting high this spirit stands the Russian oligarch and Chelsea football club owner Roman Abramovich. Respecting this new art discipline, they seem to have lost their heart to a creation of something christened as “functional sculpture”. Designed and developed by architects and artists, the demand for this furniture item can well be calculated during its inviting visibility at the first auction dedicated exclusively to modern design scheduled at Christie’s this autumn.

The auction at Christie’s is expected to feature items like polyurethane table designed by the Iranian architect Zaha Hadid and highly polished steel sofa by the British-born Israeli designer Ron Arad priced at £100,000 and £150,000 respectively. Word is around that Arad’s work will be displayed at the Museum of Modern Art in New York in 2009. Wishful buyers of this world’s priciest art creation include Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie.
