Ferrari Motorcycle in the Making!
Posted in Automobile, Concept, Designer on 26 September 2008

Here is the biggest news for all monster bikers. A Ferrari motorcycle is in the making! You got it right! Pondering over the question- “Why there is no Ferrari motorcycle?” that rose in his office, Israeli industrial designer Amir Glinik conceptualized the Ferrari motorcycle. His design is influenced by Vintage and modern Ferrari projects and the idea is to produce a practical machine, not in any way a “star wars” future ride.

This maybe the most radical idea on this project and may take a year to be fully developed, but it sure will conquer the world with its beautiful streamlined and sleek body. Using drive-by-wire technology, the V4 super bike features hand controls adapted from an F-16 fighter jet and buttons based on those found on the steering wheel of Ferrari’s Formula 1 racecars. Other controls for the sound system and trip computer are located on an all weather touch screen. Glinik’s design also incorporates several high-tech gadget attachments, reminiscent of Ferrari cars.

Apart from the traditional Ferrari Red, Glinik also gives possibilities of a Black Bike with maybe a 5 point star aluminum rims. If Ferrari is going to enter into a new field, it might just as well incorporate more colors into its designs. Ferrari lovers can just wait before they go Vroom-Vroom!!

Some are just born lucky not to worry about money be it during the Great   Depression or any other recession for that matter. And there are enough smart designers to rake it in from them. When we go ahead and purchase expensive products only the rich get richer. The famous designer Francis Hooper intends to do just that saying his collections at the Air New Zealand Fashion Week  were inspired to make women spend more on luxury items.

The best of the lot had to be the hand-sewn Swarovski crystals in a collection named “There is No Depression” costing around a whopping $33,000 and must help you ease of the burden off your bank accounts. It’s no wonder couture outfits like these after making an appearance or two on the ramp and fashion news remain pretty much unused in the collector’s wardrobe.

Bluetooth Ear Piece

Talk about technology going retro! If you thought gadgets and gizmos would only take you into the future well, think again. Who would have thought of Steampunk and Bluetooth together? Nicrosin has come up with a Victorian-style Bluetooth device which is powered solely by winding and should be mass produced. His creations are a compilation of sculpey and watch parts lined with leather for comfort. Wondering what you might hear- voice from the calling end or the winding chimes of the clockwork? Though it might look like it will drill your ear through, rest assured as the prop is fully adjustable and flexible and what’s more, one actually gets the dissection of the piece! Though covering it up might just be a better option lest dust interferes!

This might not be just everybody’s type of Bluetooth but if you are in any way fascinated by steampunk and would like to find yourself in a Steampunk alternate reality, you just might be able to use this baby to call your favorite Steampunk Droid!. So wind up your minds about it! Are you are still wondering about he caller hanging up while you are winding it up?

Bonding of the Car & its Owner: The Mantra of Bentley SenseS
Posted in Automobile, Car, Designer, Luxury on 22 September 2008

Bentley SenseS

Believing in the philosophy that “the driver connects with the vehicle in the same way a rider connects with his horse”, Arturo Peralta believes to have manufactured a vehicle that recognises you, is able to feel, to trust: it is almost a part of you. The Bentley SenseS is a design study of a futuristic vehicle that explores the possibilities of genetic engineering, biotechnology and artificial intelligence in order to create a deep connection between the car and its owner. The car uses artificial intelligence to respond to the driver’s presence, such as pulsing a light to the user’s heartbeat, and to operate the vehicle’s in-wheel electric motors. The driver uses reins rather than a conventional steering wheel for directional inputs. Made using vast expanses of glass, the Senses employs a new design language for Bentley.

The exterior shape is made of a solid hologram technology that creates a solid surface between the feature lines of the vehicle when it is in standby mode waiting to set off. Once inside, it offers the passengers an interface to all senses providing a unique experience.

Channels flow around and through the interior carrying and creating the energy that powers the vehicle. So, Bentley SenseS, is one car sure to give you a feeling that it understands you.

Kenchikukagu Mobile Furniture

Those who still consider Japan as a hub for electric productions only shall revise their opinion. The rationale is the mobility touch that seems to have influenced Japanese markets thereby inviting prospective consumers. Called the Kenchikukagu, it is the designer range of mobile furniture coming from the house of Atelier OPA based in Japan. The Kenchikukagu series incorporate a mobile work station, a mobile bed and a moible kitchen. Out of all, the mobile bed gathered my attention as it can be pleated when not in-use. It sports a small work space with a lighting touch that can appeal no less than a masterpiece, if installed in an office. Designed to ease your working, sleeping and eating habits, the designer mobile furniture are way beyond those virtual concept designs as are available for sale on Amazon Japan for JPY 800,000(about $7436 US).

New Angelina Jolie Barbie doll
Posted in Auctions, Celebrity Shopping, Designer, Display on 22 September 2008

Barbie dolls have been loved and loathed at the same time. It is every young gal’s definition of beauty and that is precisely what bothers a number of thinkers. Ablue Eyed fantasy that all children want to fulfill! Reminds me of Morrison’s The Bluest Eyes. Well, the manufacturers cant be least bothered! They have recently sold an Angelina Jolie doll for $3,000 on eBay. The doll is designed and created by Noel Cruz who is himself a fan of Jolie. The doll has Jolie’s pout lips as well as Jolie’s mole on her forehead.

Right now, the company has not decided to have more Jolie dolls but the trend may soon catch up to have Hollywood icons on the range. Who knows, the next model for Ken could very well be Jolie’s hubby Brad Pitt!!

Deck Up the Skull with Swarovski
Posted in Crystals, Designer, Luxury, Swarovski on 18 September 2008

Swarovski skull

It has been a known fact that human beings have been trying to reconcile with the phenomenon of life and death for ages. The desire to be immortal has led to many new inventions in the field of science and technology. Artists deal with this trauma in an entirely new form- by creating a piece of work that remains immortal even after they are no more. Swarovski designer Quinn Gregory has decided to fight with his destiny by creating a rare piece of art that he wants to be remembered for. He came up with the idea of making Swarovski-studded skulls when he was diagnosed with a fatal heart disease. So, he turned to this art to deal with the realities of death and the inexpressible aura surrounding it.

Perhaps he was taking inspiration from Yeats who wrote about the golden immortal bird. Gregory has taken a hollow skull of a woman and given artistic life to an inanimate skull.

He has decorated the skull with white Swarovski crystals and redone the eyes with blue sapphires. The price for these rare beauties start with $3,000 and have more than 8000 Swarovski pieces on each hear.
