Posted in Designer, Elite Find of the Day, Furniture on 27 June 2008

Kage RoiFeatured above is a programmed idea-generating boardroom that can be the prerequisite of any brainstorming conference room. Designed by Japanese IT group Kayac, in association with researchers from Keio University in Japan, the system eavesdrops and detects what’s going inside via voice recognition and project the germane statistics on your center table. Called “Kage roi,” the system identifies keywords and search for them, thereby providing a steady stream to each person sitting at the desk.

Outfitted with countless tinted LEDs, the room is capable of altering the lighting effect to reproduce different moods. The half day form replicates the steady shift in illumination as the sun rises and sets making the one seated on the conference table realize the passage of time and meet their deadlines.

Posted in Art, Designer, Events, Exhibitions on 26 April 2008

Swinging Room

The yearly Kips Bay Decorator Show House started in New York on 24 April and will run through 22 May. To my utter surprise, around 22 designers would be using this as a platform and are provided with six apartments at The Manhattan House, 200 East 66th Street to participate in the Kips Bay Decorator Show House. For the first time in the history of 36 years, the show is being held in an apartment building rather than a town house. In coming days I would be updating you with designer credits. Tickets for the show would cost you $30.

Some interesting stuff direct from 2008 Kips Bay Decorator Show:

Caceres + Miranda

An Audi-design prototype chandelier hangs above a table in the Daniel Boulud kitchen. Also, the artwork of Caceres + Miranda designed by Geoffrey Bradfield is quite interesting. Simon Horn crib, configured here for a toddler, sits on display in a children’s room designed by Bograd Kids. A teak torso of drawers with superimposed silver breeds luxury. The BKH-designed living rooms, modern furniture, including a Vladimir Kagan sofa are amongst the attraction of the Show House.

Airwaves concept car

Designer Lei Liu has put his thought upon giving form to an elite city car concept that would offer a stress-free ride even amidst jammed roads and digging space for itself in tight parking lots. Called Airwaves, this miniature coupe does away with the tension of bearing the awful jams and freeing you from the risk of dents and scratches. Instead of hinging outward, its electronic door spins upright to avert others being “doored”.

Eco-friendly Cutting Board with built-in flexible LCD display

Those who wish to have a complete kitchen set up installed (a revised definition of complete) shall read further, others can feel free to skip. The presence of the cooking board I am going to talk about would offer a high-tech look and feel element to the otherwise mundane kitchen. Nardo Design’s new high-tech Digital Cutting Board that infuses a new lease of life into the kitchen cutting board. The cooking instructions are popped up on the integrated detachable LCD display, thereby leaving no space for the imperfection to the dish being cooked. It also gives you access to the downloaded recipes, in case you want to experiment with.

Staring figuring this: All these facilities right your kitchen shelf. All chefs should thank Marc Nardangeli, a design student and creative mind behind this production. The cutting board rests upon comfy rubber feet that support an acrylic board. The acrylic board controls the inner mechanism to run the flexible LCD panel and the compact kit comes potted with a security tempered glass panel that allows finger based, touch screen processing. They say even this device allows the cutting board to download the cooking recipes. On both ends, it has stylish chromium handles.

Now, its eco-friendly touch can better be understood with its components counting the lead and bromide free circuit board and the non-toxic chromium handle. Bottom line: It is still a concept with an extensive potential for functionality. Our eyes are all glued upon the news of its hitting the kitchenware market.

Seekway 3D LED Cube Prototype Breeds Shine
Posted in Concept, Gadgets on 6 April 2008

3D LED Cube Prototype

Seekway has put jointly this impressive 3D LED display that has a potential to exhibit images in full 3D at a startling, 30 fps. The sample comprises of a 16 x 16 x 16 network of unified tint LEDs and if calculated accurately then it produces 4096 individual diodes. I am sure it is going to win your heart and mind but believe me a small visit to the video is worth.

Having productively created the aforesaid model, Seekway has plans to enter the mechanism into fabrication, but they’re in a mood to beef up things—by saying you can start imagining a cube equipped with 48 x 48 x 48 grid of interrelated LEDs resonance. It sounds like 11,000 diodes but with no price information available it is difficult to say whether the product is worth picking or is just hyped up.

iPhone Case
Case-mate’s smart creation “Diamond Case” comes packed with 42 blingy nuggets, counting 3.5 carats, festooned with 18k gold.

Word is around that they have given one to Macworld and plans to sell it off at $20,000 per case. It looks striking but worth $20,000 for a phone casing. Isn’t it a bit too much?
