Music lovers may call it a piano, Collectors may see it as another accessory to be auctioned at Christie, Steinway and Sons may take proud to produce such an invention but Walden Woods Art Case piano is a ray of hope for the Walden Woods project that conserves Walden Woods and cultivates the next generation of conservationists and American Forests, the oldest nonprofit conservation group.
News is the piano is scheduled to be auctioned tonight at Christie’s fundraising juncture in Manhattan and is expected to generate minimum $500,000 that would be contributed towards charity. This musical instrument is an outcome of is a exclusive association between Steinway and Sons, marquetry artist Silas Kopf, popular recording artists, and two charities (the Walden Woods Project and American Forests).
The piano is a blessed instrument as it has been played by artists’ viz. Elton John, Dave Brubeck, Herbie Hancock, Bruce Hornsby and Billy Joel. The wood used to design the marquetry wood art on the piano is from the area adjacent to the historic Walden Pond in Massachusetts. The legs of the piano clearly reflects the mirror image of the inverted arches that portray Walden Pond and Thoreau’s renowned quotation, “I went to the woods to live deliberately…” is imprinted in the upper edge of the piano.

Going with the theme of athletic gears that are lighter in weight, Germany’s Lupine Lighting Systems are also making a step in the direction to produce light-weight bike lights whose brightness and cost value is directly proportional.
Known as “Betty” (above), the bike light produces the sufficient amount of heat that even if a rider is moving slowly (no wind-flow created in return), the light will mechanically go dim averting the light from overheating.

Japan’s character goods maker Sanrio lately unveiled the pure gold playing cards with Hello Kitty characters designed over it on 28 September 2007 in Tokyo. I am sure the level of curiosity among the audience crazy for Hello Kitty Doll ($66115) and Hello Kitty Doghouse ($31660) is not only alive but has grown two-fold.
The plastic laminated playing cards, produced by Japan’s metal company Mitsubishi Material, contains 0.73g pure gold per card. Sanrio is planning to start accepting orders from 3 October with a price of $4,930 (567,000 yen).
